I recently had a phone conversation with someone who had been living outside Japan for quite sometime and recently moved back to Japan.
We were talking about the Japanese999 website and the topic moved on to about how Japanese is like recently. Apparently there are so many words that if no body explains to me how they are used, I would probably not be able to figure it out by myself.

Here are some of the words that I found particularly interesting.

  • アラサー (arasaa) = short for around 30 years old

  • アラフォー (arafoo) = short for around 40 years old

Apparently they are used to talk about age.
For example,
私もうアラサーだから、そろそろ結婚しないと。
(I am around 30 so got to get married.)

  • レス下さい (resu kudasai) = Please reply to me

It is a short for レスポンスください(resuponsu kudasai) "give me a response"

by the way, if you change that to "レズ下さい" it becomes something completely different.... :)

スto ズ..... only one character, but something completely different.

what a Japanese evolution in real time
